The course “e-Learning Best Practice with OLM” took place on 15th December 2009 at Oracle Corporations London offices. The course was heavily subscribed and included understanding the implementation of SCORM 1.2 compliant e-learning content and best practice in the areas of project management, metadata tracking and content repurposing / remediation. Please click here for the full course coverage.

Oracle Learning Management (OLM) is a unified learning delivery system that allows organisations to extend training to employees, customers, and partners. OLM offers a wide range of functionality, from on-line classroom management to self-service learner joining options / enrolment. The following link takes you to a video that shows you OLM in action. However, this seminar focused on developing e-Learning content NOT administration features of OLM.

OLM supports SCORM 1.2 and hopefully future releases will support greater SCORM functionality. OLM is tightly integrated with the Oracle Human Resources applications, leveraging existing organisation structures, management hierarchies and employee data.

Working closely with Oracle we identified the need to offer a forum of sharing in practical skills, challenges and approaches for implementing effective e-Learning solutions, for example: re-mediation, re-purposing and selecting meta-data models are just as important as developing content itself. In addition, learning paths and selecting the most appropriate tracking data from learners should all be part of the initial learning design.

The seminar was presented by Dr Savi S Arora and Jon Turner and leading experts in the field of implementing practical e-Learning solutions.

Dr Savi Arora has been prolific documenter regarding standards for implementing Learning Management Systems, getting content to work, for example and passing tracking data. Dr Savi is the UK Managing Director of Knowledge Hemispheres – an leading e-Learning and New Media production and e-Learning integration company. Also presenting at the conference was Jon Turner, a thought leader and practitioner in the area of e-Learning standards, implementation methodologies and strategy.

Mr Jon Turner is Managing Director of one of Europe’s leading e-Learning companies: Quistor.

After the event all the attendees were given access to streaming video, audio and materials presented on the day.

Many large organisations consist of multiple sites divided into a regional structure. One of the divisions inside the NHS has a number of challenges. Firstly, to bring people together for updates, and secondly, to save paper distributing related information, for example, presentation materials or supplemental working papers.

Using our Screencast service we recorded a number of their conferences for attendees, home-based workers and absent staff. Within two days of the conference all associated content was formatted and available online. Our screencast page includes options to either view online or download the associated Powerpoint presentation pack, speaker video, adobe pdf documents and audio file (.mp3). Formats for viewing on content on mobile phone based on a download option were also provided.

In terms of advantages for the client, the solution delivered content that respected both the present economy we live in and saving the planet in terms of travel. In addition, information was archived and released as a series of podcasts and blogs. All content was also made available on delegate and absentees mobile phones.

KHLInteractive have delivered Screencasts for NHS, NESC and ISACA organisations.

Over the years we have been privileged to assist Bal Rashmi, a charity that builds new schools, supports existing slum schools and runs orphanages in India. We used their video footage to establish two field reports/updates. This content was then made available on their website and is also viewable in full from YouTube.

The content was developed for re-use, for example, capturing screen-shots, distribution to UK schools as a Video to promote greater awareness of the cause.

Future plans are to twin UK schools with these schools and to use Webcams – hopefully inspiring our future generations to eradicate poverty.

BAL RASHMI means the morning sun emerging above the horizon like the sparking eyes of a new born, radiating hope and cheer. Bal Rashmi was founded on Children’s Day the 14th November 1972 at Jaipur, Rajasthan, (India) with the motto of “Save Children Save Generation”.
