Many consider the release of official business audio as an addon to what is now perceived as standard marketing tools, for example: a company website, newsletter and mass email marketing ? Many companies use these mediums to communicate messages either internally or specific clients. However, there are some problems with trying to market through these communication channels.

People don’t always get your email due to overly aggressive Spam filters.

The bounce rate can be high and your site may not be sticky.

With a podcast, clients can actually stream the audio and let it play while they are doing other tasks at their computer, especially as humans tend to multitask in order to be more efficient with the use of their time.

You also need to ensure that the content has a well and highly perceived value.
Loyality is key and the latter is closely related to regularity of quality output.

With a podcast accessed through iTunes, you potentially have an audience of millions of listeners.
Podcasting your subject area can ensure targeted content and an avenue for greater interactivity between you and your product or service.

The following 7 reasons for business podcasting / Corporate podcasting as a starter are:

Increase your marketing reach and on-line visibility

Improve your sales & conversion rates

Regular line of communication with subscribed listeners

Value added content increases loyalty

Industry news and trends sets you apart from the competition

Interviews with leaders in your particular niche will establish your business as a respected leader in your niche or industry

An extension of accountability for your business, for example: service reporting, client discussion, blog commentary / feedback, product planning or version/configuration management.

Ever heard of an elevator pitch? Or, as we would say in the UK, a lift pitch – The term came from the concept that if someone asked you about your business on the way up (in a lift) to a meeting in an office, could you communicate it effectively in say, 30 seconds – probably the average lift journey. Or, consider if you are at a party and someone asks you what you do for a living. Could you keep the conversation going without seeing their eyes beginning to droop!?

Making your work sound interesting, attractive and inspiring can be difficult even to the most passionate amongst us!

Elevator pitches can also be incorporated into:

Printed business cards

Part of Video or audio podcast content

Company presentations, including FLASH based presentations that combine multimedia

Good practice for a variation/incorporation (subtly) into a 140 character Twitter message

Here are 10 ways to develop a great Elevator pitch:

Understand the client / end market / business opportunity it will be aimed at

Understand the critical business issue based on your executives personal experiences

Consider a simple and easily worded solution : Don’t be a generalist.

Communicate what your company actual does to resolve the issue
(Consider the STAR – Situation, Task, Activities and Results)

How will the company facility benefit to the client

This is a taster – What are the next steps to gain more information

Consider your organisations mission and summarise it to help formulate your pitch

Use multimedia tools to express yourself – A picture tells a thousand words!

Slip in the values of your organisation

Consider where this pitch will be used and reused.

With regard to the latter, the 30 sec pitch could be reused (the term we use is repurposed) as part of a:

Video Podcast pre-play sequence

Audio Podcast pre-play sequence
(Incorporating it into your corporate podcast can really help with consistent communication strategies – both interal and external)

Adapted theme for different parts of your business

initiative or ongoing brand clarification programme

Recently the CEO or Knowledge Hemispheres Interactive was in conversation with another CEO who is involved in installing software in aircraft landing gear. The CEO of the landing gear software company suggested that the more you communicate your corporate’s objectives the better you become at refining your company’s purpose.
