The NHS Data Model and Dictionary provides a reference point for assured information standards to support health care activities within the NHS in England. It has been developed for everyone who is actively involved in the collection of data and the management of information in the NHS.

Khlinteractive developed an engaging e-learning SCORM 1.2 compliant project for Connecting for Health (NHS) department. Khlinteractive was responsible for devising the content plans, driving the design and development of the content structure within the scope of the predefined standards and guidelines.

KHL co-ordinated and managed the complete work flow from the requirement gathering process to the final delivery of the project. KHL worked in preparing the e-learning instructional design by liaising efficiently with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and gain full control over the e-learning content material.

KHL also provided timely consultation to the client in relation to the end-user engagement in order to benefit from obtaining the maximum end-user satisfaction. This was accomplished by taking into account various critical aspects such as e-learning tool limitations, total efforts involved within the scope of existing time constraints. Scheduling and managing teleconferences, formulating the minutes of meetings (MoM) and face-to-face meetings with the client to understand the requirements formed the communication modes of the latter.

ITQ is the National Vocational Qualification for IT Users which demonstrates staff competence in the use of IT in the workplace. We delivered both the e-Learning content and all associated voice overs for a number of large educational establishments. In addition, we developed an assessment environment to complement their manual marking and moderation procedures.

In terms of advantages for the client the solution was fully integrated. i.e.: Using common registration systems, learners could register once with common identification/access to the college’s Blackboard Learning Management System, where the modules we developed resided. Integration continued with online assessment, content archiving and remote assessment synchronization.

All modules developed to date are both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 compliant. Interestingly compatibility is facilitated by the BlackBoard Learning management system (LMS). Each module is imported into the associated LMS, where it is able to pass (parse) tracking data to the Blackboard gradebook. For example, instructors can allocate modules to delegates, candidate, students / course attendees and monitor tracking elements, for example:

Score,

Completion targets to set pass mark percentage,

Elapsed time and

Actual session time.

When the course participant has passed the set number of allocated modules, a flag is passed using webservices to another system that allows work to be submitted and marked.

We have delivered a full e-Portfolio system to The British Computer Society. This system is also integrated with e-Skills, i.e: At e-Skills an initial pre-assessment is performed.

Dependant on competency, a learning pathway is established to either greater foundation skill development or immediate practical submission of evidence and assessment.

The course “e-Learning Best Practice with OLM” took place on 15th December 2009 at Oracle Corporations London offices. The course was heavily subscribed and included understanding the implementation of SCORM 1.2 compliant e-learning content and best practice in the areas of project management, metadata tracking and content repurposing / remediation. Please click here for the full course coverage.

Oracle Learning Management (OLM) is a unified learning delivery system that allows organisations to extend training to employees, customers, and partners. OLM offers a wide range of functionality, from on-line classroom management to self-service learner joining options / enrolment. The following link takes you to a video that shows you OLM in action. However, this seminar focused on developing e-Learning content NOT administration features of OLM.

OLM supports SCORM 1.2 and hopefully future releases will support greater SCORM functionality. OLM is tightly integrated with the Oracle Human Resources applications, leveraging existing organisation structures, management hierarchies and employee data.

Working closely with Oracle we identified the need to offer a forum of sharing in practical skills, challenges and approaches for implementing effective e-Learning solutions, for example: re-mediation, re-purposing and selecting meta-data models are just as important as developing content itself. In addition, learning paths and selecting the most appropriate tracking data from learners should all be part of the initial learning design.

The seminar was presented by Dr Savi S Arora and Jon Turner and leading experts in the field of implementing practical e-Learning solutions.

Dr Savi Arora has been prolific documenter regarding standards for implementing Learning Management Systems, getting content to work, for example and passing tracking data. Dr Savi is the UK Managing Director of Knowledge Hemispheres – an leading e-Learning and New Media production and e-Learning integration company. Also presenting at the conference was Jon Turner, a thought leader and practitioner in the area of e-Learning standards, implementation methodologies and strategy.

Mr Jon Turner is Managing Director of one of Europe’s leading e-Learning companies: Quistor.

After the event all the attendees were given access to streaming video, audio and materials presented on the day.

The British Computer Society is one of the four United Kingdom examination boards that offers the Vocational Qualification for Information Technology, known as the ITQ. It is aimed at Information Technology users, and demonstrates staff competence in the use of IT in the workplace. It is offered at levels 1, 2 and 3. The fundamental difference with ITQ, unlike any other IT User qualification, is that it is highly customisable. The content of the qualification can be adjusted to suit the requirements of the workplace and employee, as well as the skills level of your chosen disciplines. In other words, the employer ends up having ‘created’ their own ITQ. We have worked closely with the BCS on a number of eLearning projects.

Firstly to provide an e-Portfolio supported by an email back engine. For example, candidates can submit their work to their assessors and validators on-line. Their work is stored in what could be considered a wallet (ePortfolio). Once approval has been given for each stage of the assessment process evidence can be locked, unlocked, reviewed, assessed and validated. Throughout the process auditing, information updates to the candidate and quality sampling techniques rely on an agreed workflow.

Recently a web-services link has been established between e-Skills. The link facilitates a pre-assessment to take place for learning pathways. Registrations are automatically driven into the e-Portfolio system at BCS.

Currently, Knowledge Hemispheres designed and hosted system support over 16,000 users.
